50% means it draws these watts for half the scheduled time.
¢/kWh
EIA residential average · July 2026. You can edit this rate. 18.31¢ = $0.1831 per kWh.

Estimated electricity cost
$2.20/ month

12 kWh per month at 18.31¢/kWh

Per day$0.07
Per year$26.37
Your monthly calculation(50 W ÷ 1,000) × 8 h × 30 days × 100% × $0.1831 = $2.20
Reducing use by up to one scheduled hour per use day would save $0.27/month, with the same active time.

At these watts and active time: $0.01 per scheduled hour.

Daily is one day of use. Annual repeats your monthly schedule 12 times (not a 365-day forecast). Rates are held constant. Actual use may vary.

Use power for the selected fan speed

The editable 50 W and eight-hour example uses 0.4 kWh/day, costing $2.40 over 30 days at 20¢/kWh. It is not a rating for every fan. Use manufacturer input power at the chosen speed or a suitable measurement.

Keep the lights on a separate schedule

A ceiling fan with integrated lights can have two different daily schedules. If the motor is 50 W and the lights total 20 W, applying 70 W for eight hours assumes both are on for all eight hours. Separate estimates are more accurate when their schedules differ.

A useful question

Can I compare this directly with air conditioning?

You can compare electrical costs, but the result does not prove equivalent room conditions. Enter realistic AC cycling and fan operating time, and keep comfort and cooling needs separate from the arithmetic.

Make the estimate yours

Replace the example values with measurements or the product label. Select your state for an official average, then override it with your bill’s variable rate when available.

Ceiling fan cost at different electricity rates

This static worked example uses 50 W × 8 hours/day × 30 days × 100% active time. These chosen rates show price sensitivity; they are not utility offers. The interactive result above uses your edited inputs.
