Dehumidifier Running Cost Calculator with Active Time

A 12-hour schedule does not always mean 12 hours of compressor use. Model the difference.

Estimated electricity cost
$19.77/ month

108 kWh per month at 18.31¢/kWh

Per day$0.66
Per year$237.30
Your monthly calculation(500 W ÷ 1,000) × 12 h × 30 days × 60% × $0.1831 = $19.77
Reducing use by up to one scheduled hour per use day would save $1.65/month, with the same active time.

At these watts and active time: $0.05 per scheduled hour.

Daily is one day of use. Annual repeats your monthly schedule 12 times (not a 365-day forecast). Rates are held constant. Actual use may vary.

Separate schedule from active compressor time

Enter electrical watts while the compressor operates, then the hours the appliance is available to run. Active time is the percentage of those hours spent at the entered power. A 500 W unit scheduled for 12 hours at 60% active time uses an illustrative 3.6 kWh/day. Fan-only and standby consumption are not separately modeled.

Use measurements to narrow the estimate

Pints per day measures moisture-removal capacity, not electrical power. Use input watts or a suitable plug-in energy meter. Basement temperature, infiltration, the humidistat setting, and weather influence cycling. Compare 40%, 60%, and 80% active time as scenarios, not predictions. For seasonal use, apply your expected months rather than the all-year result.

A useful question

Can I assume it uses full power all day?

That provides a continuous-run scenario only. A humidistat may stop the compressor after the target humidity is reached. A measured daily kWh value is more reliable when compressor and fan use both vary.

Make the estimate yours

Replace the example values with measurements or the product label. Select your state for an official average, then override it with your bill’s variable rate when available.

Dehumidifier cost at different electricity rates

This static worked example uses 500 W × 12 hours/day × 30 days × 60% active time. These chosen rates show price sensitivity; they are not utility offers. The interactive result above uses your edited inputs.
