Electric Kettle Electricity Cost Calculator

A few minutes per boil adds up differently from leaving a heater on for hours.

Estimated electricity cost
$0.82/ month

4.5 kWh per month at 18.31¢/kWh

Per day$0.03
Per year$9.89
Your monthly calculation(1500 W ÷ 1,000) × 0.1 h × 30 days × 100% × $0.1831 = $0.82
Reducing use by up to one scheduled hour per use day would save $0.82/month, with the same active time.

At these watts and active time: $0.27 per scheduled hour.

Daily is one day of use. Annual repeats your monthly schedule 12 times (not a 365-day forecast). Rates are held constant. Actual use may vary.

Count heating minutes, not time on the counter

The 1,500 W, six-minute daily example uses 0.15 kWh/day. At 20¢/kWh that is $0.03/day and $0.90 over 30 days. Six minutes is 0.1 hours. These inputs illustrate the calculation and are not a measured boil time for your kettle.

Compare the same amount of water

For a fair kettle comparison, start with the same water quantity and temperature and finish at the same target. A higher-power kettle can finish sooner, so comparing wattage alone misses the time difference. Keep-warm operation needs to be included separately.

A useful question

Can I multiply one measured boil by daily boils?

Yes, when the amount and starting temperature are comparable. Multiply measured kWh per boil by boils per day, then by days and your dollar-per-kWh rate.

Make the estimate yours

Replace the example values with measurements or the product label. Select your state for an official average, then override it with your bill’s variable rate when available.

Electric kettle cost at different electricity rates

This static worked example uses 1,500 W × 0.1 hours/day × 30 days × 100% active time. These chosen rates show price sensitivity; they are not utility offers. The interactive result above uses your edited inputs.
