Freezer Electricity Cost Calculator from Annual kWh

Use the freezer’s tested annual energy use, then apply your electricity price.

Example inputs

kWh/year
Find annual kWh on your EnergyGuide label.

The starting kWh value is an illustration. Replace it with your model’s annual energy use; do not enter the label’s annual dollar cost.

¢/kWh
EIA residential average · July 2026. You can edit this rate. 18.31¢ = $0.1831 per kWh.
For your own rate, add per-kWh supply and delivery charges; leave out fixed fees. Find it on your bill →

Estimated electricity cost
$4.58/ month

25 kWh per month at 18.31¢/kWh

Per day$0.15
Per year$54.93
Your monthly calculation300 kWh ÷ 12 × $0.1831 = $4.58
Using 20% less energy would save $10.99/year at this rate. A scenario, not a promised saving.

Daily = annual ÷ 365; monthly = annual ÷ 12. Rates are held constant. Actual use may vary.

Find yearly kWh for the exact model

The 300 kWh starting value is an example. At 20¢/kWh it represents $60 per year, or $5 per month. Use your model’s annual kWh rather than borrowing a value from a freezer of a different size or design.

Garage conditions can change the result

Annual label use is measured under test conditions. A garage, utility room, or kitchen may have different temperatures and door-opening patterns. Follow the model’s approved ambient-temperature range. A representative energy measurement helps refine the label-based budget.

A useful question

Is a chest freezer always cheaper to run?

Do not decide from the shape alone. Compare the actual annual kWh of similarly sized models, then apply the same rate. A larger low-wattage freezer is not automatically the lower-energy option.

Make the estimate yours

Replace the example values with measurements or the product label. Select your state for an official average, then override it with your bill’s variable rate when available.
